Winter Newsletter – August 2015

Hi Everyone
We hope you’re all braving the cold…and if you are lucky enough to be relishing in some summery weather…then we are SO jealous!!
Just a quick update on the happenings of Woodsoak Wines:
  • We have a brand new wine that is about to be bottled – our 2015 Santi Sauvignon Blanc.  We will officially release Santi at The Bookshop in Robe on Friday October 23rd from 5pm onwards, everyone is welcome.  Santi is the Hindi word for peace – our 13 year old son, Vijay, came up with this harmonic name!
  • Last month, we entered our new 2012 Mayur Chardonnay & 2013 Raj Shiraz into the Australian Boutique Wine Awards (crush < than 250 tonnes) and both were awarded medals.  This is most pleasing to our 9 year old daughter, Rani, as her position is Chief Medal Sticker On-er!  Yes…it’s a paid job!
  • Woodsoak Wines turns 5 this year - hip hip hooray!  To celebrate, we have produced a limited release 2012 Sparkling Shiraz & 2013 Sparkling Blanc de Noirs.  Both are being bottle fermented in the traditional Champagne style & we have been patiently patiently patiently waiting and taste testing every few months for the past couple of years.  We are in the early stages of planning an event so stay tuned…
  • Woodsoak Wines are passionate about the “Shop Local” campaign.  We are a unique Community who rely on each other to keep Robe functioning.  There are only 3 local wine labels in the Robe Wine Region (Governor Robe, Karatta & ourselves) and we are all dedicated to collaboratively establishing Robe as a wine destination (with our Mt Benson neighbours).  We encourage you to support our local Stockists – The Bookshop, Sails Restaurant, Pizza Project, Caledonian Inn, Robe Hotel, Don’s Kitchen, Cellarbrations, Robe Bowling Club, Robe Golf Club, Robe Footy Club, Robe Harbour View Motel, Lakeview Motel & Robe Haven Motel.
Kind Regards
Will & Sonia Legoe

Silver Medal at the Australian Boutique Wine Awards 2013

Yay Zaahira Sparkling!  A Silver Medal!

We certainly didn’t expect this accolade in our 3rd year of having our wine label up and running.  And certainly not from our newest release,  our Zaahira Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay.  We released it in September 2012, won a Bronze medal at the 2012 Limestone Coast Wine Show and now this Silver medal at the prestigious 2013 Australian Boutique Wine Awards

Obviously, we are thrilled with the medal and even more so with how well their Zaahira Sparkling is faring on a local and national level.   It’s a really exciting time, we’re enjoying all facets of this journey and learning so much about the wine industry.

Woodsoak Wines are produced from grapes grown on the Legoe family farming property, Woodsoak.   The first vines were planted in 1998 with the grapes being sold on contract.  We started making small batches of wine for family and friends and due to it being well received, the Woodsoak Wines label was born in 2010.

Since 2010 Woodsoak Wines have been available locally at all bottle shops and in Robe’s licensed cafes and restaurants.

Choosing to mix our Australian and Indian heritages, we have used the national bird of India, the peacock, as our emblem.

Our Vijay Cabernet Sauvignon, Raj Shiraz and Rani Rose are named after our three children.  We ran out of children, so the fourth wine in our range, Pyaar Pinot Noir incorporates the Hindi word for love.   Our Mayur Chardonnay is named after the Hindi word for peacock.

Zaahira is our most recent wine and has quickly become our most popular.  It’s  our flagship wine now. It’s a delicate blush coloured wine that has been meticulously blended to enhance the natural fruit characters of the classic grape varieties Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.  It displays an enticing fragrant mix of red fruit characters including fresh strawberry, mulberry, pomegranate and poached rhubarb. The finish is soft in the mouth with a refreshing crisp citrus backbone ensuring the longevity of the wine.  It’s irresistibly fun and delicious.  The word “Zaahira” aptly means luminous and shiny.

These accolades received are affirmation that we are maintaining high quality  grapes as well as a successful wine making process.  We have a lot of praise for our winemaker Peta Baverstock.  “She is a “master” of her craft. Her passion and dedication for wine is completely infectious!

We also have a lot of praise for our community.   We are incredibly well supported in Robe and certainly wouldn’t be enjoying these rewards without our loyal stockists and customers.

We love running a small boutique business and have a lot of exciting things happening very soon.

Watch this space!

2013 – The Vintage that was…

Grape harvest is always an exciting & tiring time of year. It really is a big boys playground – heavy machinery, late nights, deadlines to meet! For the workers, it’s an adrenalin rush – trying to fill the grape bins as quickly as possible & hoping that for once, everything will go according to plan without any machinery breakdowns – wishful thinking really!
